fcpx / final cut pro x filmstrip does not update when using generator published from motion

I'm in the process of making a couple of generators and filters for final cut. What I don't understand is how they interact with the filmstrip in final cut.

When settings are changed on some of the built in generators (eg Generators/Backgrounds/Clouds) the film strip updates, others don't. I've been unable to make one that does update and was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers?

That is all dependent upon how powerful your Mac is. Be sure you have background rendering turned off. There's really no end-user control over that function.

I'm running a top spec mac, but anyway, I found a way to force fcpx to use output from a template in the filmstrip preview. if you open the template folder in finder and delete the small.png and large.png it updates with live screens that reflect the output of the template as per the settings currently set.
